Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains a health issue that contributes to an increased risk of complications for both the mother and the fetus. One preventive measure against anemia is the administration of iron (Fe) tablets; however, its success is highly influenced by the consistency of consumption among pregnant women. This study aims to analyze the effect of consistent iron tablet consumption on the incidence of anemia among second-trimester pregnant women at the Siko Community Health Center. The study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 50 pregnant women in their second trimester, selected using total sampling. Data on the regularity of iron tablet intake were collected via a data collection form, while anemia status was determined based on hemoglobin level test results. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Contingency Coefficient test, with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that 54.0% of the respondents consumed iron tablets regularly, while 48.0% of the respondents had anemia. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant association between the regularity of iron tablet consumption and the incidence of anemia (p=0.000), with a strong correlation (r=0.625). These results indicate that pregnant women who regularly take iron tablets have a lower risk of anemia compared to those who do not take them regularly. Efforts to improve education, counseling, and monitoring of adherence to iron tablet intake during antenatal care must continue as part of efforts to reduce the incidence of anemia and improve the health of both mothers and fetuses.
