Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains a public health issue that increases the risk of complications for both the mother and the fetus. One factor believed to contribute to the development of anemia is the mother’s nutritional status during pregnancy. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia among pregnant women in the service area of the Siko Community Health Center. The study employed a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 60 pregnant women selected using total sampling. Nutritional status was assessed based on Upper Arm Circumference (UAC) measurements, while the incidence of anemia was determined through hemoglobin (Hb) level testing. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Spearman Rho test with a 95% significance level. The results showed that 53.3% of the respondents had normal nutritional status, while 46.7% were undernourished. Anemia was found in 60.0% of the respondents, consisting of mild anemia (25.0%), moderate anemia (23.3%), and severe anemia (11.7%). Bivariate analysis revealed a significant association between nutritional status and the prevalence of anemia (p=0.002; r=-0.395), indicating that the better the nutritional status of pregnant women, the lower the risk of anemia. These findings underscore the importance of monitoring nutritional status, providing education on balanced nutrition, and early detection of anemia as part of antenatal care to support the health of both the mother and the fetus.
