Abstract

Background: Nutritional status among children under five is an important indicator of child growth and development. In addition to biological factors, nutritional status is also influenced by sociocultural factors, such as the role of traditional leaders, as well as access to and the quality of health services. Methods: This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 121 children aged 1–2 years, with a sample of 92 respondents selected using the proportional random sampling technique. Data on the role of traditional leaders and health services were collected using questionnaires, while nutritional status was assessed based on the weight-for-length/height (WFL/H) indicator (PB/U or TB/U). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Spearman Rho correlation test at a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: The Spearman Rho correlation test showed a significant relationship between the role of traditional leaders and the nutritional status of children, with a correlation coefficient (rₛ) of 0.367 and p = 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a positive relationship with low to moderate strength. The Spearman Rho test also showed a significant relationship between health services and the nutritional status of children, with a correlation coefficient (rₛ) of 0.367 and p = 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a positive relationship with low to moderate strength. This means that the better the role of traditional leaders and the quality of health services, the more likely it is that children aged 1–2 years in Ketong Village, Donggala Regency, will have better nutritional status. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the role of traditional leaders and health services with the nutritional status of children aged 1–2 years in Ketong Village, Balaesang Tanjung District, Donggala Regency.
