Abstract

Helminthiasis caused by Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) remains a public health problem in Indonesia, especially among elementary school children who actively play outdoors and have suboptimal Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS). This community service aims to improve students' understanding of the importance of handwashing and routine nail cutting, as well as to detect the presence of worm eggs in nail dirt using a visual telediagnostic approach. The activity was carried out at SDN 1 Kragan-Karanganyar targeting 86 students in grades 1, 2, and 3. The method used includes three stages: preparation, implementation (pre-test, interactive PHBS education, handwashing demonstration, nail dirt sampling, and post-test), and laboratory evaluation utilizing telediagnostics. Laboratory examinations were performed using 10% NaOH and 2% Eosin solvents under a binocular microscope equipped with a digital imager for visual telediagnostics, allowing remote validation and digital documentation. The results showed a significant increase in students' knowledge about PHBS after being given education. In laboratory screening, STH worm egg contamination was found in 11.63% of the students' nail samples, indicating the continuing need for supervision of children's personal hygiene. Awareness of hygiene and the habit of washing hands with soap must continue to be promoted through collaboration between schools and local health facilities, supported by digital diagnostic innovations to prevent helminthiasis.
