Abstract

Low hemoglobin (Hb) levels in pregnant women can increase the risk of anemia and adversely affect maternal and fetal health. One non-pharmacological supportive intervention that may help increase Hb levels is guava juice consumption. This study aimed to determine the effect of guava juice consumption on Hb levels among pregnant women at Mopuya Public Health Center. This study employed a quantitative pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 60 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected by measuring Hb levels before and after guava juice consumption. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with a paired-samples t-test using SPSS. The results showed that before guava juice consumption, most respondents had mild anemia, with 35 respondents (58.3%), whereas after the intervention, most respondents had normal Hb levels, with 38 respondents (63.3%). The mean Hb level increased from 10.36 g/dL to 11.24 g/dL. The paired-samples t-test showed a p-value of 0.000. In conclusion, guava juice consumption had a significant effect on Hb levels among pregnant women at Mopuya Public Health Center.Low hemoglobin (Hb) levels in pregnant women can increase the risk of anemia and adversely affect maternal and fetal health.
