The postpartum period is a time of increased vulnerability to perineal suture site infections; therefore, practicing good personal hygiene is a critical measure in preventing postpartum complications. Mothers’ knowledge of personal hygiene is thought to influence wound care behaviors; however, the relationship between knowledge and infection risk has yielded mixed results. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between postpartum mothers’ knowledge of personal hygiene and the risk of perineal suture site infection at the Hiri Maternity Health Center. The study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 postpartum mothers selected using total sampling. Data were collected using a knowledge assessment questionnaire and an observation sheet for the risk of perineal suture site infection, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Lambda test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had good knowledge (36.7%), while perineal suture site infections were found in 50.0% of respondents. Bivariate analysis showed no significant association between postpartum mothers’ knowledge of personal hygiene and the risk of perineal suture site infection (p=0.654; r=0.133). These findings suggest that the incidence of perineal wound infection is influenced not only by the mothers’ level of knowledge but also likely by other factors, such as adherence to wound care, wound condition, nutritional status, and the environment. Therefore, infection prevention requires a comprehensive approach that focuses not only on improving knowledge but also on providing guidance on wound care practices and monitoring during the postpartum period.
