Abstract

Second stage prolonged labor remains one of the major obstetric complications contributing to maternal and neonatal morbidity. Maternal risk factors such as maternal age, parity, anemia, and fetal birth weight may influence the occurrence of prolonged second-stage labor. Early identification of these risk factors is essential to prevent maternal and neonatal complications. This study aimed to analyze maternal risk factors associated with prolonged second-stage labor at RSUD Bolaang Mongondow Selatan in 2025. This quantitative study employed an analytical observational design using a cross-sectional approach. The study involved 98 mothers who delivered at RSUD Bolaang Mongondow Selatan selected through total sampling. Independent variables included maternal age, parity, history of anemia, and fetal birth weight, while the dependent variable was prolonged second-stage labor. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-Square tests with a significance level of α = 0.05. The findings indicated that maternal age, parity, anemia, and fetal birth weight were significantly associated with prolonged second-stage labor (p<0.05). Mothers with high-risk reproductive age, primigravida, anemia, and larger fetal birth weight tended to experience prolonged second-stage labor more frequently. Maternal characteristics play an important role in determining labor outcomes. Comprehensive antenatal screening and early identification of maternal risk factors are recommended to reduce the incidence of prolonged second-stage labor and improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.
