Abstract

Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (emesis gravidarum) is a complaint that is often experienced by pregnant women in the first trimester due to hormonal changes. One of the nonpharmacological treatments that can be used is the consumption of warm ginger, which is known to have natural antiemetic effects. This study aims to determine the effect of giving warm ginger on the frequency of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester. The sample consisted of 30 pregnant women in the first trimester who experienced nausea and vomiting and were selected using the purposive sampling technique. The intervention was in the form of giving warm ginger drinks for seven consecutive days. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test to compare the frequency of nausea and vomiting before and after the intervention. The results showed that the average frequency of nausea and vomiting before the intervention was 5.8 times per day and decreased to 2.7 times per day after the administration of warm ginger. Statistical tests showed a p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which means that there is a significant effect of giving warm ginger on reducing the frequency of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy.
