Abstract

Chemotherapy is one of the main therapies for cancer patients. However, chemotherapy often causes side effects, particularly chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), which can reduce patient comfort and quality of life. Complementary therapies, such as lemon aromatherapy, have been used to alleviate these symptoms. To describe the implementation of lemon aromatherapy in reducing the intensity of nausea and vomiting among post-chemotherapy patients. This study employed a descriptive case study involving five post-chemotherapy cancer patients at RSD K.R.M.T. Wongsonegoro Semarang. The intensity of nausea and vomiting was measured using the Rhodes Index of Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching (RINVR) before and after the administration of lemon aromatherapy through inhalation according to the standard operating procedure. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing pre- and post-intervention scores. All participants experienced a reduction in nausea and vomiting intensity following the intervention. The mean RINVR score decreased after lemon aromatherapy, indicating an improvement in patients’ conditions. Lemon aromatherapy may be considered an effective complementary nursing intervention to reduce nausea and vomiting in post-chemotherapy patients.
